Job Description

1. Provide professional nursing services on a daily basis.

2. Maintain student’s medical records. This includes following up on missing and/or incomplete records (including immunization records) with parent’s/guardians.

3. The Clinic Manager should request that parents/guardians see their doctor to get a new Medical Form (a full medical) every 3 years.

4. Attend outside sporting functions or organizes an ambulance to be present for sporting functions, when the athletic director has approval for it.

5. On a daily basis the Clinic Manager must check the daily attendance on Clinic Online System. Telephone the parent of any student who is absent from school for 3 consecutive days. Note the reason for the absence on Clinic Online System. Help families to seek local resources/professionals to deal with their children’s needs.

6. Prepare and maintain a list of students with chronic health conditions. Communicate with teaching staff when necessary about the health problems for students in their care, provide a care plan/ emergency plan when appropriate.

7. Work as a health educator with students with chronic conditions, such as asthma and allergies.

8. Promote health by publishing papers on the school web-site; speaking to classes or at faculty meetings; arranging for outside speakers to come into school.

9. Work as an active participant of the “Health and Safety” committee.

10. Evaluate whether a student has a valid reason to be excused from PE.

11. Provide a safe haven for troubled/anxious students; when appropriate make referrals to the school counsellor for further assessment.

12. Participate in discussion, recommendation and the writing of policies. Serving in a leadership role for health policies and programs.

13. Act as a liason between school faculty, family, community and health care providers.

14. Ensure that the clinic is adequately stocked with equipment and medical items and all equipment is maintained in good working order.

15. Respect the student’s rights to confidentiality, but disclose information if it is believed that the student may be at risk of harming themselves or others.

16. Work cooperatively within the clinic team, share your skills and experience for the benefits of your colleagues/students.

17. Maintain skills and knowledge, using PD funds appropriately to develop competence and performance. Work within the limits of your competence, students should be referred to doctors in the community for diagnoses.

18. For every clinic visit document clearly on Clinic Online System the assessments you have made, the treatment and medicines you give and how effective they have been. Ensure that the records are clearly attributable to you. Ensure hazard report and accident forms are completed when appropriate.

19. Provide health information when necessary for staff taking students on field trips.

Job Requirements

  • The minimum qualification should be a registered Clinic Manager with a Bachelor's Degree. There registration should remain current.
  • Further training in children’s nursing, emergency nursing, and or teacher training are valuable.
  • Post-registration courses to gain further expertise and competency may include: first aid at work/school, travel health, anaphylaxis, asthma, and health and safety.
  • The Clinic Manager should hold a current certificate in First Aid.
  • The Clinic must be attended between 7.30am-4.30pm.
  • If the clinic is left unattended, a note must be left on the door with mobile phone number and whereabouts.
  • Good at communication, negotiation skills
