Job Description

Summary of the Role

 

Production director manages operations and workflows of a manufacturing process to achieve production objectives in safety, quality, output, efficiency, delivery and customer satisfaction. They work to increase productivity and improve efficiency among a team or throughout the effective internal supply chain, resources utilization and standardization enforcement.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

People:

§  Identify, recruit, motivate, coach, develop and retain staff to ensure sufficient and qualified resources to deliver production plan

§  Provide tools, information, training & necessary support to staff to complete their jobs

§  Manage staff performance and provide frequent constructive feedback for staff development

§  Handle discipline and employee termination in accordance with company policy.

§  Manage interpersonal conflicts, promote collaboration and respect. Reinforce & model company culture and values

 

Pre-Production:

§  Pre-production preparation: monitor pre-production preparation progress. Coordinate with related functions to ensure the required skilled labor, technical support (sewing garment technicians, mechanics, etc.) and machine resources are in place for achieving the production plan.

§  Set production targets: based on the production plan, annual operations performance targets, set monthly production performance targets and monitor production performance against targets.

§  Production inputs: establish processes with upstream departments for ensuring required quality materials and information is available to start production as planned.

 

Production:

§  Manage production workflow and schedule. Maximize resource utilization and achieve production targets by daily production monitoring, review daily reports on cutting, sewing and product completion

§  Establish process for regularly communicating progress to related departments as needed ensure production plan targets can be achieved.

§  Production efficiency & resource balancing: re-allocate workers, provide adequate resources to the production lines to maintain and improve on production efficiency targets.

§  Supervise orders produced in Sub-contractors.

§  Ensure all employees follow industry standard health and safety guidelines

§  Work with technical/ mechanics team to develop & oversee routine maintenance programs and schedule service to keep machines/equipment functioning properly all times

§  Establish workflow policies that enhance speed, quality and efficiency without compromising product safety or integrity

§  Maintain all production related documentations for future reference purposes

§  Communicate any problems or obstacles to senior management

§  Provide accuracy and timely production reports as required

 

Quality

  • Ensure quality standards are understood and met in the manufacturing process, provide resources and training while demonstrating a champion for quality production.

§  Quality monitoring & inspection: conduct spot checks on quality, review regular analysis reports from QC and materials management to identify trends and major quality issues and lead Production team to identify root causes of quality issues, develop and implement a corrective action plan.

§  Work with Quality and relevant team to establish and enforce production and quality standards.

 

Continuous improvement:

  • Collect, review, validate and analyze production, machine performance, materials and quality data to identify potential problems, wastes, ineffective process/task
  • Lead the Production team to work with relevant team and functions (IE/ME/QA/Technical …) as needed to identify root causes, develop and implement a corrective action plan.

Job Requirements

Qualifications, Experience and Competency Requirements

·       Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Industrial Engineering

·       10 years of progressive manufacturing experience, preferably currently having same role (Production Director) in a manufacturing company with at least 5 years

·       Strong operational experience with the ability to establish and measure KPI’s.

·       Proven analytical, evaluative and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.

·       Proven financial acumen.

·       Experience in managing continuous improvement projects.

·       Strong interpersonal skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills.

·       Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

·       APICS, CQE, Six sigma or Continuous Improvement credentials preferred

·       Possess working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques including: Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, Kanban, Visual Management and JIT Lean manufacturing

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office
